Furbabies & Pet-Parents

Furbabies & Pet-Parents: The words alone pretty much explain themselves. People who simply regard their lovable pet-companions as family; raising these precious little creatures with the love, nurturing and care that you would hope one would shower upon a human child. Unfortunately, not everyone is fully equipped in the grace of  "nurturing."

That's what we are! Pet-parents to our four-legged basset hounds, our "furbabies". Across the world there are countless people like us who regard their dogs, cats and donkey's too as part of the family! We even have a wonderful friend in Georgia who has a family member who is a little pig named Chloe! She too is considered a furbaby! Here in Texas we have another wonderful friend who has her family donkey named "Honkey"! Don't laugh too hard! Ok, so we did too! He is a beautiful Donkey too!

You might be thinking, "Are these  people all nuts??" We would be quick to say no! On the contrary we all share a special relationship amongst ourselves in the world of animal rescue. A link first formed through Basset Hound Rescues, all breeds rescue really,  across the United States and abroad. Strong bonds of friendships have been forged over time and working together to save the lives and re-home not just bassets but cats and dogs all over!

Abused, neglected and abandoned animals who only need a forever home. It's a real big deal to so many around the world!  So big of a deal we either travel to and gather at events for the purpose of both animal rescue and to hug the necks of the people we have come to know and love like family, through our mutual and like-minded journeys in animal rescue efforts. Anyway, so back to furbabies and pet-parents.

My husband and I are Pet-parents to our 3 Resident Basset Hounds, Benny, Dewey & Gabby Lynn. We are also a long-term foster for a little long-haired chihuahua-terrier named Toby that was just hours away from being put down in a shelter when we were called in from one of the many Animal Rescues in Texas. We were called in  to step up to not only save Toby's life but to socialize him with our trained basset hounds so that Toby would be placed in a Forever home. Toby was severely abused for being such a little guy. Toby was very fearful and traumatized. Someone really did a number on him.

Today however, Toby is a happy, bouncy, trusting, playful little guy! It took love, patience and time! The same kind of love and patience one would give to an abandoned, abused and unwanted, frightened child; that is what we did to help Toby become the happy dog that he is today! Unfortunately he thinks he is a Basset Hound now and tries really hard to Howl-along with our Basset Crew!

Where most people are blessed to be given the opportunity to have and raise children, my husband and I have simply been blessed to rescue and raise our Furbaies...and the many Foster-Furbabies who have come into our lives and since gone on to their forever homes with loving, committed families.

Often my husband Curt and I have talked about how closely we can both personally relate to the needs of "unwanted" abused, abandoned or neglected little animals. We have often imagined having been blessed together with a human child that we created together. But that wasn't in God's plan and we accept that. Anyway, that innate desire to love and nurture something outside ourselves has fully blossomed in the way we love and nurture our 'Furbabies".

My husband Curt and I always say that people who truly know us as real people, they [know] how much our little family that consists of not only ourselves but our furbabies too, means to us in our hearts. The wonderful experience of being pet-parents to our furbaies has been almost a sort of therapeutic experience for my husband and I personally.

Therapeutic in the way of giving love and commitment to something outside ourselves in a nurturing way that neither of us had ever fully understood as being truly necessary and important [years] ago.  It's hard to explain here without getting off point.

Nurturing-we fully understand the great necessity of nurturing with love and patience; both to each other and to others. Furbabies are no less worthy or deserving of nurturing, in our heart of hearts.  Even though these little four legged creatures are dogs, cats, donkey's or pigs, love is love is love. Animals are widely known to love their companions [unconditionally].  If only our human race were that graceful!

Furbabies & Pet-Parents: We are a special breed of a human-being. This page here on this blog will be to feature the many stories and such of our life together as Pet-Parents to our Furbabies. This page will also promote the efforts of Animal Rescue and Welfare, as we are directly involved in this wonderful cause.

Meet Gabby Lynn:
Gabby Lynn is our youngest Basset Hound. In a sentence, she is quite the little Princess! A spoiled rotten, can never do no wrong "Daddy's Girl". We rescued her at 7 weeks old with 3 others from a liter of 9 basset hound puppies who were living in a cold garage the first week of December 2014. The moment my husband Curt laid eyes on her and knew we would have the joy of fostering 3 basset hound puppies together, Gabby Lynn stole his heart with all her puppy breath and needy glory. Her actual adoption wasn't final until June of this year with the Basset Rescue we have volunteered with for quite some time. She is such a little beauty!

Meet "Dewey" DuPont Xavier aka Baby Dewey:
Dewey was born in the winter of 2013. The first week of December. Dewey was literally dropped in the snow when he and his Mother's litter was born. We call Dewey "Our Gentle Giant". Dewey is 78% Basset Hound and 22% Treeing Walker-Coonhound. Dewey is a rescue out of North Texas, another Basset Hound Rescue we have volunteered for. Dewey is very protective and yet amazingly playful and today the "leader of the pack" our pack of hounds. He was little bitty guy when we got him at the age of 9 weeks old. Boy do we LOVE this "Boy".

Meet Benny: Ohhh this Boy Benny Pierre!
My husband named Benny's middle name because of the French history lines in Basset Hounds. Benny is our very first basset hound! Our first furbaby together! My husband had to talk me into basset hounds to be honest. I am so glad he did! Benny is our oldest. He was born in August of 2010. We adopted Benny at 9 weeks old! Benny has been with us for 5 years now! He is a loyal, determined to speak his "thoughts" as we say, precious little tank of a basset hound. He is like his brother Dewey, "A Mama's Boy"!

Doggie Park Fun-Day
Our furbabies love, love, LOVE going to the doggie park! All we have to say to our pack is: "Get your leashes! Doggie Park!" They all take off running around with excitement! Another beautiful day together 12/23/2015 at the doggie park with our Basset Hound crew ♥ Gabby Lynn of course being the Daddy's Girl that she is, she had to be in her Papa Curt's arms ♥ We love these furbabies of ours ♥ These pics taken with my Nikon camera
